Andrew Carr Encourages Transfer Portal Players: ‘Go to Kentucky’
Andrew Carr, a forward at Kentucky, urges transfer players: Go to Kentucky. He speaks from his bond with the Wildcats. After Kentucky lost in the Sweet 16 to Tennessee, Carr shows his support for the team and its new coach, Mark Pope.
Kentucky fell 78-65 in the game. Yet, Coach Pope marks success in his first season. He rebuilt the team by replacing seven transfers with nine new players. This change helped Kentucky reach its deepest NCAA Tournament run since 2019. Carr, who came from Wake Forest after two strong seasons at Delaware, values this rare experience with his teammates.
"I’ll tell you that much. Go to Kentucky," Carr said after the loss. He adds that history was made at the heart of college basketball. Coach Pope’s first year has been truly amazing. Carr feels excited to watch a dominant run grow over the next 10 to 15 years.
During his only season at Kentucky, Carr was ranked No. 67 in the transfer portal. He gained 10.3 points per game and pulled down 4.7 rebounds in 35 games, starting 29 times. He cheered hard when he helped secure his first NCAA Tournament win.
Coach Pope praises the players for building a strong base. He notes they set high standards on the court, in the locker room, and even off the floor. That high standard will inspire the program. Pope adds that, in ten years, people will speak of these players as examples of true Kentucky basketball.
Carr reflects on a season unlike any other. He says, “What was done has never been done before.” His words underline how special his teammates are.
Kentucky now builds on a 24-12 season that included eight wins against top-15 teams. Coach Pope secures his first transfer for the 2025-26 season. He welcomes Kam Williams, a former Tulane wing and the No. 22 overall prospect in the transfer portal. This move makes Kentucky even more attractive for athletes who want to excel.
