Virginia Basketball Welcomes Four-Star Transfer Guard Sam Lewis from Toledo
UVA’s new head coach Ryan Odom leads a big move. He brings in former Toledo guard Sam Lewis. The Field of 68’s Jeff Goodman reported the news on Saturday afternoon. This news shows the program’s clear plan and steady drive.
Lewis stands 6 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 210 pounds. He shined at Toledo in his sophomore season. He earned second-team All-MAC honors. He started all 33 games. He scored 16.2 points per game. This rate made him the fourth-highest scorer in the MAC. He shot 44.4% from the three-point line, the best mark in the league. He also grabbed 4.7 rebounds per game. In 11 games, he scored 20 or more points. He finished with 15 straight games of double figures and 31 games overall.
Lewis is ranked No. 92 among overall transfer prospects. He is No. 26 among shooting guards in the 2025 portal cycle. He brings two years of eligibility. In his freshman year at Toledo (2023-24), he played in 31 of 32 games. He averaged 3.6 points and 1.3 rebounds in 11.8 minutes per game. He shot 45.8% overall and 36% from long range.
Before choosing Virginia, Lewis caught the eye of several programs. Texas A&M showed interest before head coach Buzz Williams left for Maryland.
Virginia moves forward under Coach Odom. He stepped in after Tony Bennett’s sudden retirement in October. The team is working to build a strong roster. Eleven players have already entered the transfer portal.
The current 30-day transfer window stays open until Tuesday, April 22. This window gives Virginia more chances to add talent for the 2025-26 season. With new names entering, the Cavaliers are set to remain active in their search for talent.
