USC’s Rising Star Wesley Yates Transfers Back to Washington: What It Means for His Basketball Career

Wesley Yates Transfers to Washington from USC

Wesley Yates transfers from USC to Washington. He is a standout basketball player. Joe Tipton of On3 first reported his choice.

Yates finished his redshirt freshman season with USC. He played 33 games and started 24. He averaged 14.1 points per game. He shot 47.8 percent from the field and 43.9 percent from three-point range. He gathered 2.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.2 steals each game.

Yates has a link to Washington. He spent his freshman year with the Huskies but did not play due to a foot injury. That injury made him leave. Now he can return to the team. He is eager to resume his collegiate career in a familiar place. His family ties also lean toward Washington; he is related to former Huskies star Quincy Pondexter.

Yates comes from Beaumont, Texas. He shined at Beaumont United High School. He earned a four-star rating. He ranked as the No. 50 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle. He was the No. 12 shooting guard in the nation and the third-best player from Texas. Only Ron Holland and Dink Pate ranked higher. Both joined the G-League Ignite after high school, according to On3. In the current transfer scene, Yates ranks as the No. 41 overall transfer and the No. 10 shooting guard in the NCAA Transfer Portal. These rankings come from On3’s 2025 Top Transfer Portal Players list.

Fans can follow the latest moves in college basketball through On3’s Transfer Portal wire and their social media on Instagram and Twitter.

College basketball changes fast. Yates’ transfer marks a new chapter in his journey. His return to Washington promises to be exciting next season.
