Urban Meyer Reveals NCAA Tournament Final Four Predictions on The Triple Option Podcast
Urban Meyer is a well-known former college football coach. He is not a basketball expert. Still, he joins the March Madness talk. On The Triple Option podcast, he picks teams for the NCAA Tournament. Meyer names second-seeded Michigan State, Tennessee, and Alabama as strong chances to reach the Final Four. He also backs his former team, top-seeded Florida.
"I think Florida is a national champion … I’ll go right now. Florida is going to win it all," Meyer said. His words show strong support for the Gators. Florida won the SEC Tournament recently. It enters the NCAA Tournament with strong momentum. Fans see it as a top choice for the title. Gators head coach Todd Golden speaks of a "six more" mindset as the team prepares. He says the team carries a chip on its shoulder. They have built this edge against one of the toughest schedules in the nation.
"If we feel good about ourselves and let our intensity, our focus slip, it could be done tomorrow," Golden warned. He adds that the Gators like the underdog role. "They enjoy playing with the chip on their shoulder. They don’t want to be getting all the love. They want to keep that edge," he said.
Golden also noted, "For the first time all year, we’re starting to get a lot of credit and a lot of respect. All four guys on ESPN’s group pick us to win the national championship. It’s like, ‘Really? OK.’ We appreciate it, but we’re not going to let it slow us down. We’re going to ensure we handle success the right way."
Meyer now works as an analyst for Fox Sports. He has also coached the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars. He has not said he will return to coaching. His career includes two national titles with Florida (2006, 2008) and one with Ohio State (2014). He left his college head coaching role after resigning from Ohio State following the 2018 season. His time with the Jaguars in 2021 was brief. He lasted less than a season before he was dismissed.
Before coaching at Florida and Ohio State, Meyer led teams at Utah (2003–04) and Bowling Green (2001–02). He holds a strong college record of 187–32. His NFL stint was short and challenging. He only managed two wins before leaving. Meyer first joined Fox Sports as a college football analyst in 2019. He returned to that role in 2022 after his short NFL coaching job.
Keep an eye on this year’s NCAA Tournament as March Madness unfolds, and see if Meyer’s predictions come true.
