UNC Wilmington Transfer Harlan Obioha Commits to West Virginia

West Virginia secures a big move for next season. They have signed seven-foot center Harlan Obioha. He transfers from UNC Wilmington. His agents, Noah Reisenfeld and Adie Vongontard, confirmed his decision on Sunday evening.

At UNCW, Obioha had a strong season. He averaged 9.0 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. The Seahawks saw his talent as he appeared in many games. In the 2024–2025 season, he played 17 games with double-digit scoring. In a February 24 game against William & Mary, he scored a career-high 23 points and got 10 rebounds. That game sparked a six-game winning streak and helped UNCW win the Colonial Athletic Association championship.

Obioha also helped the Seahawks reach the first round of the 2025 NCAA Tournament. They met Texas Tech, the No. 3 seed, in a tough game that ended 82–72. He scored seven points and grabbed nine rebounds. His play showed his strength on a big stage.

Before UNCW, Obioha spent two and a half seasons at Niagara. In the 2023–2024 season, he earned MAAC Player of the Week honors. He played in 32 games and averaged 10.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 1.2 assists. He shot the ball well at 63.3%. He had a season-best 22 points against Rider and collected 16 rebounds against Manhattan.

In the 2022–2023 season at Niagara, he played 28 games. He averaged 2.9 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. In one game against Quinnipiac, he achieved a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Obioha first joined Niagara midway through the 2021–2022 season and red-shirted. Before college, he starred at Hoxie High School in Kansas. There, he averaged 28.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game. He scored over 1,000 points in his senior year. He earned two first-team All-MCL honors, first-team All-State honors, and was runner-up for the AA Player of the Year award.

Now, Obioha joins West Virginia. His skills and experience will help strengthen the Mountaineers as they build their roster for the next season.
