Acaden Lewis Decommits from Kentucky Basketball Program
Four-star point guard Acaden Lewis has decommitted from the University of Kentucky. ESPN’s Jonathan Givony first reported the news. Lewis requested a release from his national letter of intent that he signed in November.
“This was an incredibly difficult decision, but I have to do what’s best for my future,” Lewis explained. He thanked Coach Pope and the Kentucky staff for their steady support.
Lewis comes from Washington D.C. and chose Kentucky over Duke, North Carolina, and UConn. He once said he would play a key role with the Wildcats. Dushawn London from 247Sports wrote, “They want me to come in and play a priority role right away. There’s a starting spot, and he wants me to take it. I want to come in and run the team.”
The 6’3” guard worked hard to hone his skills. He needed clear support for his growth on the national stage. His choice shows he weighed his options and his future with care.
The decision followed head coach Mark Pope’s many visits in D.C. Pope made it clear how much Kentucky valued Lewis. After signing him, Pope said, “Acaden Lewis is so much of what you want in a great point guard. He has incredible vision, can get to the rim and finish, makes every pass, and already understands the probing nature of a point guard.”
According to 247Sports’ class of 2025 rankings, Lewis is the 35th-best prospect in the nation. He is the fifth-best point guard and the top player from Washington D.C.
Kentucky still wins two five-star freshmen: guard Jasper Johnson and center Malachi Moreno. They add Pittsburgh transfer Jaland Lowe, who earned third-team All-ACC honors. With Lewis’s exit, Kentucky may look for a backup point guard or trust rising sophomore Travis Perry next season.
As recruiting trends shift every day, fans and analysts will watch closely as Kentucky meets this new challenge.
