Texas Guard Malik Presley Enters NCAA Transfer Portal
Texas basketball shifts its course. Guard Malik Presley enters the NCAA transfer portal. Jamie Shaw from On3 confirms the move. Presley, who transferred from Vanderbilt, sat out the 2024 season. He wants to keep his redshirt status. This choice gives him three more years to play college basketball.
At Vanderbilt, Presley made his mark. In his freshman season, he played 26 games and started five. He averaged 2.2 points per game and grabbed 1.6 rebounds per game. Head coach Jerry Stackhouse led him then.
Before college, Presley shined at San Marcos High School in Texas. He earned a three-star rating. The On3 Industry Ranking placed him as the No. 178 overall player in the 2024 class. The ranking uses data from several major recruiting services.
Presley is the second Longhorn in the transfer portal. After the First Four of the 2025 NCAA Tournament, forward Devon Pryor committed to Oregon. Pryor was ranked as the No. 34 small forward this cycle on On3’s Transfer Rankings.
Texas basketball also gained a positive addition. The team secured a commitment from Matas Vokietaitis, a former center from Florida Atlantic. This is a key first acquisition for new head coach Sean Miller, who is also focused on keeping vital roster pieces.
Guard Jordan Pope returns to the Longhorns under Miller’s guidance. He averages 11.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game. He led the team with 1.0 steal per game. Before transferring to Texas, Pope averaged 17.6 points in his sophomore year at Oregon State.
Tramon Mark announced his return to the Longhorns. He had a solid season averaging 10.6 points per game after transferring from Arkansas, where he had his best statistical season.
As the offseason moves on, the Longhorns face change. Coach Miller’s style and a busy transfer market help shape a stronger roster.
