Texas Basketball: Sean Miller Charts Course for Future Amid Transfer Portal Activity
Sean Miller is Texas basketball’s new head coach. He builds his roster for the 2025-26 season. The transfer portal is now open. He works hard in a new setting. He seeks strong players for the Longhorns.
On The Paul Finebaum Show Miller explained his work. He said he feels like he is flying a plane and putting it together at the same time. He makes small changes every day. He also asks for clearer rules on transfers. He adds, "We’re in a time where student athletes can make money and there’s nothing wrong with that." He supports better transfer protocols.
Miller does not plan to rebuild the roster from scratch. He values the players who are here now. He said, “It starts with the players that are here at Texas right now. They went through a change and you have to respect the fact they’ve gone through a lot these last couple weeks.” He cares for their well-being. He checks which players will return from last year and seeks new talent from the transfer portal. He expects many changes in the next eight weeks.
Miller has a strong history in the NCAA Tournament. He reached eight Sweet 16s and four Elite Eight berths since 2007. He works to lift the Longhorns higher. He has not yet won a national championship. He sees this job as a chance to use better resources than he had as a mid-major coach.
Miller sees college basketball change fast. He said, "The world of college sports has flipped upside down over the last three to five years, but no sport more than in college basketball." He notices big shifts in the SEC. He recalls the SEC from ten or five years ago. Now, talent, parity, and coaching have all grown.
As he starts with the Texas Longhorns, Miller uses the SEC to push him and his team. He hopes his time in Austin is both strong and rewarding.
