San Francisco Guard Jason Rivera-Torres Enters NCAA Transfer Portal
Jason Rivera-Torres, guard of San Francisco, enters the NCAA transfer portal. On3’s Jamie Shaw reports this move. He began his college career at Vanderbilt with the Commodores. Now he seeks a new team for his basketball journey.
Rivera-Torres makes waves off the court too. He starred in the Apple TV+ show "Swagger." NBA star Kevin Durant co-produced the series. It aired for two seasons from 2021 to 2023. In the 2022-2023 season with the Dons, Rivera-Torres played in 33 games. He averaged 2.4 points and 2.3 rebounds each game. He did not start any game. San Francisco ended its season in the second round of the NIT. They finished 25-10. The Dons lost 77-76 to Loyola Chicago. They placed third in the West Coast Conference behind Saint Mary’s and Gonzaga.
Last offseason, head coach Chris Gerlufsen welcomed Rivera-Torres. Gerlufsen praised his talent for both offense and defense. He said, "His skill set and toughness make him a great addition to our team this upcoming year."
Rivera-Torres comes from The Bronx. He first chose Vanderbilt, where he played for NBA veteran Jerry Stackhouse. With the Commodores, he played in 29 games and started two. He averaged 6.4 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. His free throw rate was 76%. In his debut against Alabama, he scored 20 points.
As a recruit, Rivera-Torres was rated three stars. He entered college in the 2024 class. On3 ranked him as the No. 172 player overall and the No. 34 shooting guard. He was also the fourth best player from Virginia.
So far, over 1,250 men’s college basketball players have entered the NCAA transfer portal. Experts expect this number to grow as the 2024-25 season nears.
