Ohio State Buckeyes Set for White House Visit Amid Spring Football Preparations
The Ohio State Buckeyes now shift focus to the 2025 college basketball season. They pause to mark their recent gridiron win with a visit to the White House. The national champion team meets President Donald Trump on April 14. This meeting stands as a key moment in the team’s history.
Head coach Ryan Day shows clear joy about the visit. He recalls childhood moments, when he saw champions honored at the White House. Now as the Buckeyes’ leader, he says, “It’s an honor to be invited. We were formally invited; it’s customary. I remember growing up and watching national champions visit the White House. I saw that as a great honor. It is a part of our team’s celebration.” The Philadelphia Eagles also plan a visit after their Super Bowl win. Soon, football will be the main event in the nation’s capital.
This visit is not the first for Ohio State. In 2014, the team went to the White House to celebrate a national championship win with then-President Barack Obama. Day was not on the staff then. Urban Meyer led the program and Tom Herman was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
Details of the event are not final. Still, the excitement for April 14 grows.
In spring football, Ryan Day keeps the tradition of the spring game. Many college teams skip the spring game now, yet Day stays true to his plan. He wants to give players and fans a clear experience. “I think it’s good for everyone to know,” he said. “My plan is to have a spring game. I just think we need to save a little wiggle room in case we take injuries. We want to do this. We want to play a spring game. Now, there may be some guys held from the game, but not many.”
With 159 days until their matchup against Texas, Day sees the spring game as a chance for young players to gain key game time. He views the spring game as a chance to compete and improve before the season. The game will look much like past seasons. This keeps the style clear for both players and fans.
Ohio State now gears up for a White House trip. At the same time, they build plans for a strong spring football season. The visit and the game mark two key steps as the Buckeyes work to grow their national championship legacy.
