Nick Boyd Transfers from San Diego State to Wisconsin Basketball Program
Nick Boyd has chosen a new path. He transfers from San Diego State to the Wisconsin Badgers. On3 reports this change. The move matters for both the player and the team. Boyd makes his third college stop. He played two seasons with Florida Atlantic and one with the Aztecs.
Boyd began his journey at Florida Atlantic under coach Dusty May. He played four seasons there. One season was hit hard by a pandemic. In another season, he chose to redshirt. FAU made changes under new coaching. Many players left, and Boyd was one of them. He then joined San Diego State for the 2024-25 season. While with the Aztecs, he earned All-Mountain West honors.
Last season, Boyd proved his worth as a starter. He played in all 31 games and averaged 13.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.9 assists in nearly 30 minutes each game. His shooting was strong. He hit 41.1% of his field goals, 35.1% of his three-pointers, and 74.6% of his free throws. He also averaged 1.0 steal per game. The Aztecs ended the season with a 21-10 record. They went 14-6 in Mountain West play. As an 11-seed, they reached the NCAA Tournament but lost in the first round to North Carolina, where Boyd scored 12 points.
Now, Boyd moves to Wisconsin. The Badgers had a strong season. They posted a 27-10 record—their best in a decade under coach Greg Gard. They finished fourth in Big Ten play with a 13-7 record. As a three-seed, Wisconsin advanced to the NCAA Tournament and reached the Round of 32 before losing.
With Boyd joining the team, excitement grows. Fans now wonder how he will boost performance next season. A good fit on the roster may help the Badgers push toward a deeper NCAA Tournament run. Many hope he spurs a return to the Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 2017.
