Kyan Evans Transfers to North Carolina: A New Chapter for the Tar Heel Guard
In this season’s transfer phase, Kyan Evans from Colorado State committed to the University of North Carolina. He announced this decision on his Instagram. Evans averaged 10.6 points and 3.1 rebounds per game last season with the Rams. He will add his sharpshooting to the Tar Heels’ team.
Evans played two seasons at Colorado State. In his sophomore year, he showed clear potential. As a freshman, he played 36 games from the bench. In his second year, he started all 36 games. His growth shone through in his shooting numbers. He hit 85 percent of his free throws. He raised his three-point shooting from 32.1 percent as a freshman to 44.6 percent as a sophomore. He averaged nearly two makes from beyond the arc per game.
His best play came during the NCAA Tournament. There, he shot an amazing 61.5 percent from three-point range. He made 8 out of 13 attempts. He helped lead Colorado State to a win over Memphis by sinking six three-pointers.
Throughout the season, Evans showed his scoring skill. In 13 games, he hit three or more three-pointers. In only three games did he miss every three-point attempt. His consistent play kept him a strong offensive threat.
Now, Evans joins North Carolina. The team ended the 2024-25 NCAA Tournament in the second round. They finished with a record of 23-14 and held a 13-7 mark in ACC play. He is the third player to join head coach Hubert Davis this transfer cycle. He follows 7-foot Henri Veesaar and ex-West Virginia guard Jonathan Powell. Yet, the Tar Heels also lost players, including five-star recruits Elliot Cadeau and Ian Jackson, as well as power forward Jalen Washington.
By March 26, more than 1,250 men’s college basketball players had entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. That number may grow as the season ends. For news and details, fans can check On3’s Transfer Portal wire. It tracks transfers, profiles players and ranks moves in real time.
With Kyan Evans now wearing Tar Heel blue, North Carolina hopes to build a stronger team and chase future tournament success.
