Kentucky Players Respond to Zeigler’s Gesture in Countdown to Sweet 16 Showdown
Excitement builds as Kentucky and Tennessee face off in the Sweet 16. Kentucky players note a clear link: Volunteers guard Zakai Zeigler shows a rude sign. After Tennessee beat UCLA at Rupp Arena, a photo emerges. The image shows Zeigler flipping off the Kentucky logo. The act sparks quick, strong reactions in the Bluegrass State.
Kentucky players saw the photo that Nashville photographer Erin Powers posted. Guard Lamont Butler confirms, "I have seen it." His words add drive to the team. The news gives them extra motivation. They want fun and care little for the gesture. They choose to play hard.
Wildcats center Amari Williams offers a similar view. He says, "It is cute when a team like that has not beaten us in a long time. They will be mad about it. But we do not care. They can do as they wish while we get ready on the court."
Freshman Collin Chandler adds plainly, "We saw the picture. No comment. We saw it. We are ready."
The two teams have met before. They meet again on Friday for a third time. Kentucky now leads 2–0 over Tennessee. On February 11, Kentucky won 75–64. Even so, Zeigler showed his skill by scoring 17 points and providing six assists.
On January 28, Zeigler struggled with his shots. He scored only 13 points on 18 tries. As stakes rise, Tennessee will look to Zeigler for a strong turn. They want him to bring success against the Wildcats.
Andrew Carr of Kentucky now fires on all cylinders. The 6-foot-10 forward plays a crucial part. He scored in double digits in four of his last five games. Carr is key to Kentucky’s plan. He explains, "To win, we must contest every shot and make each shot tough. We did that in the first two games and will do it again on Friday."
Both teams hunger for victory. The game begins at 7:39 p.m. ET on Friday. It will air live on TBS. As the players express confidence and readiness, fans look forward to an electrifying encounter on the court.
