New Orleans Guard James White Enters NCAA Transfer Portal
By Barkley Truax
James White, New Orleans guard, has entered the NCAA transfer portal. On3’s Jamie Shaw reported this new move. White began his college career at Ole Miss. He played there for two years before moving to UAB ahead of the 2023–24 season. His strong performance started when he joined New Orleans last offseason.
At New Orleans, White averaged 19.2 points, 7 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game. At Ole Miss and UAB, he earned only 3.2 points per game. These numbers show his growth.
White played in 20 games this season. He scored in double figures in all games but one. In that game, New Orleans lost to Baylor by 31 points, and he scored 9 points. Earlier in the season, he reached a career-high when he scored 31 points in an overtime win against Tulane.
White last played on January 27, when New Orleans faced Incarnate Word. After that game, he, along with teammates Jah Short, Dae Dae Hunter, and Jamond Vincent, was suspended. They are said to have broken team rules. Jeff Goodman reported that these suspensions tie into a gambling investigation involving the school and the NCAA.
At the time of the suspensions, the Privateers held a 4–17 record. New Orleans lost all of its remaining games after the suspensions began.
Before committing to Ole Miss, several programs chased White. Teams such as Alabama, Creighton, Georgia Tech, and Arkansas showed interest. Despite his talent, he was unranked in the 2021 recruiting class. The On3 Industry Rankings, which combine many recruiting sources, did not list him.
White now has one year of eligibility left. He has played for four schools in five years. His journey continues as he seeks a new program.
As of March 26, over 1,250 men’s college basketball players have entered the transfer portal. This number will grow as the 2024–25 season nears its end. Fans can follow On3’s Transfer Portal wire, Instagram, and Twitter for updates.
