Florida Advances to Sweet 16 with Support from Former Star Patric Young
The top-seeded Florida Gators advanced to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2017. They edged out UConn, the No. 8 seed, with a tight 77-75 win. The game took place at the Lenovo Center in Raleigh, and the air buzzed with energy. Former Gator Patric Young was there, close at hand to cheer on his team.
After the win, Young stood courtside and greeted each player with a high five and a kind word. His presence brought the team even closer, and many players and staff paused to thank him for his support.
Young shared his excitement on Twitter. He wrote, “This was pretty cool!” and posted a short video that showed the moment of celebration.
Young played for Florida from 2010 to 2014. He played many games and left his mark on the Gators. In his college career, he averaged 8.7 points on 57.7% shooting, grabbed 5.7 rebounds, and blocked 1.1 shots per game. His strong defense earned him two All-SEC honors and the title of SEC Defensive Player of the Year. With his help, the Gators won four conference championships and reached at least the Elite Eight every season. His senior year ended with a Final Four run in 2014. After college, Young played in the NBA and overseas. In 2021, he began working with the SEC Network at ESPN. In 2022, a car accident left him paralyzed from the waist down, and he now uses a wheelchair. Still, his strength and spirit continue to lift fans and players alike.
This new chapter in Florida’s NCAA Tournament journey stays close to those who love the Gators. Fans will follow the team closely as the tournament unfolds.
