UNC Guard Elliot Cadeau’s Transfer Portal Decision Clarified by Mother
After UNC lost to Ole Miss in the NCAA Tournament, Elliot Cadeau entered the transfer portal. He joins a group of high-profile players searching for new teams this week.
Elliot’s mother, Michelle Cadeau, posted on social media to clear up rumors. The rumors claimed he wanted a better NIL deal. Michelle stated that his choice was not about money.
“For the record: Elliot hasn’t asked for anything. If it was for the money he wouldn’t have been at UNC in the first place. Whomever started that rumor has an agenda for sure…”
Elliot came to UNC as a five-star recruit. He left high school one year early to play at the college level. In his freshman season he averaged 7.3 points and 4.1 assists per game. He helped the team win the ACC title and secure a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. This season, he improved and averaged 9.4 points and 6.2 assists. He registered 231 assists, ranking him among the top guards in the conference. Yet he also led the league with 113 turnovers.
Elliot entered the transfer portal on Monday, right after the second round of March Madness. Some reports say his listing carries a “do not contact” tag. This signal shows he might already have teams in mind. Sources note that he is eyeing teams still in the tournament as well as programs that exited early.
The portal window has dropped from 45 days to 30 days, and it closes on April 22. This change gives coaches more stable timing to plan roster changes after the NCAA season. Coaches, including Arkansas’ John Calipari, worry that the current timing overlaps too much with the tournament period.
This offseason is crucial for the Tar Heels as they rebuild under head coach Hubert Davis. Several players, including Cadeau, are now in the portal. Davis now faces the task of filling roster gaps and planning for a stronger 2025-26 season. All eyes are on where Cadeau and the others will land.
