Providence forward Bryce Hopkins has announced his transfer to St. John’s, as 247Sports confirmed.
He played in only three games in the 2024–25 season. Injuries halted his season after a torn ACL ended his 2023–24 campaign.
At St. John’s, Hopkins meets head coach Rick Pitino.
Coach Pitino now enters his third year. Last season, under his lead, the Red Storm finished 31–5 and won both the Big East regular season and tournament championships.
Hopkins transfers after star forward RJ Luis, named Big East Player of the Year, left for the transfer portal.
This change raises the hope that Hopkins will greatly help his new team.
The forward stands tall at 6‑foot‑7 and weighs 220 pounds.
He showed promise when healthy.
Kentucky signed him out of high school.
Yet, as a freshman at Kentucky he played 28 games and averaged only 2.1 points and 1.4 rebounds.
After one season, he moved to Providence and then improved.
During his sophomore year at Providence (2022–23), Hopkins started all 33 games.
He averaged 15.8 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.
In his junior year, he managed 15.5 points and 8.6 rebounds in 14 games before injury issues arose.
Injuries greatly limited his time on the court.
A torn ACL in January 2024 sidelined him.
He returned on December 3 this season but soon suffered a bone bruise.
Providence coach Kim English explained that Hopkins will get a medical redshirt for the 2024–25 season, giving him another year of eligibility.
Hopkins is a four‑star prospect, ranked No. 44 in the 2021 class by 247Sports.
He is set to bring his skills and experience to St. John’s as he works to revive his college career.
