Boston College’s Chas Kelley Enters NCAA Transfer Portal
Boston College guard Chas Kelley has entered the NCAA transfer portal. James Fletcher from On3 confirmed his move. This choice marks an important step in Kelley’s basketball career. He spent three years with the Eagles.
Kelley showed steady improvement at Boston College. Last season, he reached career highs by averaging 4.4 points and 2.0 assists per game. Over three years, he played in 88 games and started 22. He averaged 16.4 minutes in each game.
In the 2023-2024 season, Kelley played in all 31 games and started in 15. He shined in a non-conference match against Stonehill in December, scoring 12 points. That game was a bright spot during a season when he reached double-digit points only twice.
Boston College faced a tough season. The team ended with a 4-16 record in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). They placed second to last, just ahead of Miami, which had a 3-17 record in the ACC. Their overall record was 12-19, and they closed the year with four straight losses. The Eagles did not qualify for the conference tournament.
As of March 26, more than 1,250 men’s college basketball players have entered the NCAA transfer portal. This number is expected to grow as teams prepare for the 2024-25 season.
In another update, Boston College will keep head coach Earl Grant for the upcoming season. Athletic director Blake James confirmed on Twitter that Grant will continue as head coach for the 2025-26 season. Grant has led the team since the 2021-2022 season and has a record of 61-71 overall. His ACC record is 27-52. Under his guidance, the Eagles have not finished in the league’s top ten nor reached the NCAA Tournament since 2009. The team once showed promise by finishing 20-16, but they later fell to a 12-19 record (4-16) in the ACC.
Fans and analysts will watch closely as the transfer portal influences college basketball. More moves are expected before the next season.
