The Delaware Lottery is one of the most diverse in the country. There are all of the draw games and instant-win scratchers, but the lottery also oversees sports betting and casino gaming in the state. The iLottery is also an option.
Despite being the second-smallest and sixth-least populous state per the 2020 Census, the Delaware Lottery might be the biggest in terms of what it has to offer for players.
Delaware Lottery Games
The DE Lottery began in 1975 and has operated VLTs (video lottery terminals) in casinos since the mid-90s. Sports betting began in 2018 and the lottery has continued to evolve, including changes to the cadence for several draw games and the creation of an updated Players Club in 2023.
There are over 600 licensed retailers in the state. Players must be 18 and over to play traditional lottery games and scratchers, but must be 21 and over to engage in casino activity, sports wagering, and the internet games.

Powerball
The DE Lottery was actually part of LOTTO America, which was the precursor to Powerball. Delaware and other states got on board in 1991 as the 14th state. It was renamed Powerball the next year.
Delaware is one of 45 states to participate in the Powerball drawing. Drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 11 p.m. ET. Ticket sales are cut off on drawing nights at 9:45 p.m.
Powerball tickets cost $2 per game, unless you want to add the Power Play option for another $1 per every $2 wagered. Balls numbered 1 through 69 and a red ball known as the Powerball has a range of 1 to 26.
The Powerball Jackpot starts at $20 million and grows until a grand prize winner is drawn.

Mega Millions also costs $2 per ticket with a $1 Megaplier add-on option. The numbers range from 1 to 70 with a Mega Ball that goes from 1 to 25.
This Jackpot also starts at $20 million and grows from there until a winner is selected.
Lucky For Life
Delaware also participates in the multi-state Lucky For Life drawing. This is a daily drawing done nightly at 10:38 p.m. ET and ticket sales run until 9:30 p.m. This is a traditional lotto drawing with five numbers from 1 to 48 and a Lucky Ball from 1 to 18.
The top prize is $1,000 a day for life and there is a second prize available by matching all five numbers, but not the Lucky Ball, to get $25,000 per year for life.
Tickets cost $2 per game. Delaware adopted Lucky For Life in January 2015.
LOTTO America
Delaware is one of 15 states to also participate in the LOTTO America drawing, paying homage to the original Powerball game. Drawings are held on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday around 10:15 p.m. ET and ticket sales stop at 9:45.
LOTTO America costs $1 per game, but there is an All-Star Bonus Multiplier that can be added on for another buck. The five numbers range from 1 to 52 and the Star Ball number goes from 1 to 10.
The Jackpot starts at $2 million for this game and keeps growing until a winner is drawn.

Along with trying to match the numbers on one line, you can also win by combining numbers across the three lines. If you miss every number, you win $2. Match six or more and you’ll win that corresponding prize.
Drawings are held nightly at 7:57 p.m. ET and ticket sales stop about a half hour prior to the drawing. The top prize starts at $50,000 and grows from there.

Similarly, numbers can be played Boxed or Straight and the cost of play varies based on the number of combinations you want available, but the cost is 50 cents per play.

The Delaware Lottery also offers Keno, with drawings done every 3.5 minutes. Drawings were held every four minutes from 2013 until 2022 when the cadence of the game was altered.
Players decide how many spots (numbers) they’d like to play and you need to match up your spots with what is randomly drawn by the computer.
